Meet Athena
Athena is our newest addition to the program arriving this November. She is currently in training with Amanda Clark and we hope to start her show career this spring. Athena comes to us from the racing world, where she was known as Dodi n Me. She most recently raced at Suffolk Downs in East Boston, MA. She raced for 6 years has 5 first place winnings along with many second and thirds. She has lifetime earnings of over $79,000.
Athena is a grey, flashy thoroughbred mare. She is 10 years old and was an instant hit at the barn with her sweet disposition and welcoming face. She was being called Spirit by our younger riders. After she showed me her fearlessness jumping into the snow we decided she should be called Athena. In Greek Mythology Athena is the goddess of war, civilization, wisdom, strength, strategy, crafts, justice and skill. Athena is also a shrewd companion of heroes and the goddess of heroic endeavor.
Athena has impressive breeding and started her racing career at Gulfstream Park in South Florida, but spent most of the beginning of her career racing at Calder Race Course near Miami, finishing her career at Suffolk Downs near Boston, MA
She is currently going easily at the walk and trot but still needs some work at the canter. She is responsive and always tries to please, a great riding mare.
