A great way to increase your young rider's skills. This is an intensive day of private and group lessons. Every rider will recieve a private 1/2 private lesson or a one hour group lesson each day. As a group they will have practice ride time to perfect technique or to learn other important riding skills, such as a solid, athletic mount and dismount, effective transitions, and steering and stopping.
We work together to give your rider what they need, whether they have been in lessons for over a year or this is their first experience with horses. We believe that it is important for riders to experience different horses so your rider will be riding more than one pony throughout the session.
One of the problems with regular lessons is that they completely ignore groundwork. Riders learn how to control the pony on the ground. They will be introduced to warmup exercises for the pony as well as for themselves. They will learn how they can transfer work on the ground into work in the saddle.
Knowing about a horse's body is a great way to increase the rider's ability in the saddle. Students get to know the horse's body through direct instruction, by grooming and by doing massage and light therapy with the horses each day.
Students learn how to tack and untack their ponies. They learn the proper way to cool down their ponies and the proper care of ponies after use. This prepares them for the more advanced level of riding they will eventual need to lease or own talented horses and ponies.
Students, of course will learn the basic safety rules when working around horses. They will learn how to take care of equipment and how to prepare a stall and paddock for horses as well how and why we feed what we feed.
Of course, we will have time for some fun doing stick pony exercies and playing horse board games. We make sure riders get breaks when needed for drinks and snacks.
We have various options available for your convenience. This is a important part of our regular riding program and a great way to start your child the right way with horses.
